Resources Specific to Mrs. McCartney's Reading Class
This is a district sponsored website that I am using to compile links to resources we will be using during our online instruction. Activities may be completed on other sites, but instructions and assignments will always be posted on this website. To log onto this website, click the button to the left, then select the blue "Log in as a student" button in the top right corner of the screen. Next, Type "BISHOP HOWARD W. MIDDLE" and select the school from the drop down choices. Finally, select "Log in with MyPortal" which will take you to the district sign-in page. After signing in, you should be able to see all the resources I have compiled to help you be successful in class.
The Alachua County Library District has a Mobile Library site where anyone with a library card can access many different materials online. (if you are in my class, a card was issued to you through school) CommonLit is a nonprofit edtech company with an online library of over 1,500 authentic reading passages, text sets, units, and digital learning tools. Teachers can assign texts digitally. Students can annotate text, respond to comprehension questions, take assessments, and more. Read aloud and translation tools are also included. |
English Language Arts Digital Resources
Readworks is a FREE website that is a great resource for reading comprehension. There are texts that range from early to advanced reading levels across a myriad of subjects.
Scholastic is offering a "Learn at Home" program with Day-by-day projects to keep kids reading, thinking, and growing. Even when schools are closed, you can keep the learning going with these special cross-curricular journeys. Every day includes four separate learning experiences, each built around a thrilling, meaningful story or video. Starting today, March 18, Townsend Presss is extending free digital access to ALL educators and students, effective though June 19, 2020. Math Digital Resources
Dreambox is an interactive website that features games and learning activities centered around mathematical concepts that build upon the student's current level. For a limited time, parents can get a 90 day FREE trial of DreamBox so children can learn at home. Simply sign up by April 30th.
Khan Academy is a free website that offers tutoring in any subject. The mathematics portion features lessons in Early Math through Multivariable Calculus! IXL Math offers a magnificent variety of practice questions for mathematical concepts. This program, provided by the ACPS district, is standards-based and has tutorials for questions that are answered incorrectly to help aid student (and former student) understanding of concepts. ST Math - fun, interactive games with Jiji the Penguin to practice and master math concepts from kindergarten through high school ST Math & COVID-19: ST Math is available at no cost to parents, schools, and districts affected by closures Moby Max - a challenging website that helps students fill in learning gaps for every K-8 subject. Moby Max gives students practice at scaffolded difficulty based on their level. Math, Language, and Foundational Reading categories all Start with a placement test to ensure your child is working at the correct level! Parents can register their children for FREE, and a quick guide is provided to help users understand how to navigate and use the website at home. Bedtime Math is a national nonprofit that ignites kids' curiosity and learning by unleashing the fun in math.
